Frequently Asked Questions

How do we decide what is defamatory/harmful?

Decisions to classify a sentence as 'defamatory' or not are made by our team of trained annotators, based upon the presence or absence of certain linguistic features (e.g. named entities) and other criteria.

Our annotators training is heavily informed by the advice of our expert Advisory Panel, composed of a mixture of editors, philosophers, lawyers and others with unparallelled experience in journalism, law, ethics and linguistics.
